Hey everyone (or realistically, hello future me)

Finally starting a blog, to write down everything related to my career, my life, and learnings along the way.

As of today (21 Oct 2025), I am a software engineer, currently working as a founding engineer in an AI startup.

What am I doing this for

I want to be able to look back at my past work, what I went through and my learnings from it. Hopefully it will be useful to at least one person (future me).

Probably there may be some technical notes here as well, maybe about some tools I'm trying out. Big fan of self hosting and running a home lab. Will document my learnings as I go along.

Will also write about my hobbies, travels, especially related to surfing, snowboarding, and cooking with my girlfriend (future wife).

What I care about

Education

Been a tutor since I was 16. Education is indeed a great social leveller, but not everyone is utilising it to its max potential. I benefitted so much from receiving a good education, and I hope more people can as well.

Environment <> Economics

Global warming bad.

My take is that the current system does not incentivise people to make eco-conscious decisions. For example, in financial markets, if you make a correct decision, you get more money. There isn't something similar in the environmental industry right now. We rely on the goodness of people's hearts or ethics to get people to make greener decisions, but it is not effective enough.

If we can take some learnings from the tech industry, especially how they optimise for attention and incentivise behaviours, we may be able to take a step in the right direction. For example, at it's core, Duolingo wants you to either purchase a subscription, or watch an ad everyday. The system utilises different methods (streaks, nice animations etc) to get people to do that, and it works. We don't have anything similar to incentivise people to be greener. Hopefully future me will be a part of that solution.

As of right now, I am writing this in SF, on a work trip to basically have a last shot for the company (more on this in another post)

Last Dinosaurs just re-recorded Wellness, let's hope they come back to Singapore to play it.
